At 2,200 meters above sea level, Ushguli is one of the highest continuously inhabited villages in Europe. It has stood here for over a thousand years through invasions, empires and centuries of silence, protected not by armies but by altitude and the sheer defiance of the Svan people who refused to leave.

The medieval towers rising from the valley floor were not built for beauty. They were built for survival, family fortresses where entire clans would retreat when danger came. But standing before them today, beauty is all you see.

I painted Ushguli the way it feels rather than the way it looks, the mountains too large to be real, the colors too vivid to be believed, the towers standing in the valley like they grew there, as natural as the peaks behind them.
